Open source intelligent lighting for office buildings

Situation and Challenge

The international consortium from 6 countries, which namely included Philips, Johnson  Controls, Zumtobel, ARM, NXP and the Technical  University of Eindhoven, was mandated by the EU to develop an open source, vendor independent, IP  connected lighting solution designed to enable a more  flexible, efficient and comfortable future workspace.

  • Stakeholder and user research for commercial lighting value chain

  • Integration of building management and controls for energy  monitoring, holistic software solution for IP lighting management

  • Development of interoperable luminaire hardware components

  • Full scale pilot with 400 lights + sensors deployed in Dutch office  space

Key involvement

  • Project lead, and main company contact within the consortium

  • Organisation of multi company ideation workshops with leading  researchers

  • Management of resources, budgets, timelines, financial audits and  quality assurance of deliverables with key consortium and  European Commission stakeholders

  • Project management for demonstration site, followed by internal  and external dissemination activities
